I’m glad I read this. What spewed out of Charlie Kirk’s mouth was both dangerous and frightening. Your call for the dialog that we must have is refreshing and well balanced - perhaps the most balanced of anything I’ve seen. I needed to hear it. Keep on being the prophet for our times.

You named my ache.

I could hear the “amen”s in the pews, but you weren’t just preaching to the choir. You were speaking to my own internal war over empathy. I feel guilty for feeling empathy for a man who spewed such vileness so no way will I cheer a death, and I’ve simultaneously felt guilty for not offering tears to a man who taught contempt. Your call to practice nonviolence without memorializing the ideology that harms us gave me a place to stand. I don’t feel ashamed now. I feel clear.

I tried to put words to it today in an essay, “Easier to Love.” It’s in the same spirit, https://www.xplisset.com/p/its-easier-to-love?r=5z1bn1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false.
