It’s not a new story - the Doctrine of Discovery granted the religious right the power to annihilate the indigenous people here as “heathens”, undeserving of the land granted to them by God; the burning of women at the stake for being “witches” sanctioned by the church for 200 years; the taking of Gaza. Religious persecution is a serious matter and not founded in any teachings of sane and compassionate religion.

I was raised in a Catholic family, so I'm familar with religion, but I'm not religious. Religion is manmade. Since it is formed by man/men, it can be a pretty demented, twisted group, depending on the mental state of that leader.

Throughout world history, nothing has killed more humans than religion and their wars. Bishop Barber, you are a fine & wonderful example of how comforting a great religious leader can be, but you aren't normal--not in America today. Reichwing fascists have taken over too many churches in our country. There's profit to be made! Screw the 10 Commandments, "the teaching of Jesus," or any other humane and civil ideas you associated with religion--that's all gone.

As long as power-hungry narcissistic sociopaths lead and promote Christian nationalism, it is a cult. It's no different than what and how Jim Jones operated his organization or Charles Manson did with his people. And all cults are led by those controlling white patriarchal, women-hating males to force others to suffer and die prematurely...just the very opposite of what Jesus preached.

Religion is only as sound as it's leader(s) are. In America, too many "religious" leaders worship only $$$$ they get from government and their gullible followers, and nothing good, only horror comes from it. These cult leaders use religion, christian nationalism, as a cover for their own dirty deeds.
