I am hoping so hard that you Bishop Barber will finally be seen as the unparalleled leader that you are and that you will take your rightful place at the head of our fight to restore and then reshape our democracy so that it works for all. I was overjoyed to see prominent congressional leaders joining you at the day long protest at the capital. I am not religious but I deeply respect you and your cadre of religious and moral leaders. You are the righteous, uncorrupted, uncorruptable leaders that we need now.

I too am not a religious person but still appreciate the underpinnings of what the Bible tries to teach us, as it relates to human morality. This country has turned on its head when it comes to compassion and empathy (surprisingly fElon thinks it’s the downfall of society…. 🤦‍♂️) and only seems to be getting worse! Thank you Rev. Barber for showing the evangelicals the part they should actually be playing in this scene! 👍

This administration likes to say Christians are being persecuted and then they turn around a persecute Christians for praying. The hypocrisy. They cleared the press from the rotunda! We could not even see what happened to them. How they were treated etc...This is terrifying (as is so much) Thank you Bishop Barber and everyone there.

All they do is hypocrisy based on cruelty and vengeance. It is so disturbing. Demoralizing.

Thank you for your courage and your voice and your determination to help all of us evaluate our moral courage to non-violently fight for the rights of all people.

I wonder why Speaker Johnson has not been arrested for having a White Christian Nationalist flag outside his office at the Capitol?

Good morning,

😃 It’s Tuesday and I am sitting at a church in Salem, Oregon with over 100 people who were invited by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon to an Interfaith Advocacy Day that is scheduled for an all-day discussion on a plan of action. Stay tuned…

Hello again,

Just a quick update as I’m awaiting an official announcement from Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon on last Tuesday’s Interfaith Advocacy Day at the state’s Capitol with legislators. Having arrived earlier, the total number of people who attended the event was closer to 200, and after an orientation session walked a couple of blocks over to the Capitol for group meetings with members of our legislature who seemed pleased to with the big turnout.

Our focus was on 7 to 8 bills that I’ll attempt to break down later but will summarize them as being related to affordable housing (HB 5011), as well as a Pathway to Protection & Citizenship Act (SB703) which expands existing ODHS immigration legal services programming through grants to culturally-specific and nonprofit legal services providers across Oregon and addresses a number of issues, including keeping families together with comprehensive support to ensure seamless access to other ODHS services, if eligible, and helps to stabilize the workforce.

A separate bill (SB 149) would provide needed support for the long term success of immigrants and refugees in Oregon, exemplifying Oregonian values of welcoming and caring for our neighbors.

SJR 28-1 is a bill currently in a Rules Committee needing to be scheduled for a work session and vote, emphasizing the Right to a Healthy Environment which EMO believes is a moral imperative - not just for good stewardship, but for the sake of protecting LIFE.

I am also advocating for a Public Banking System, modeled after North Dakota, which is intended to empower local communities by recirculating the money generated within the state or its communities, including the interest on bonds, rather than having the proceeds being diverted to the Big Banks and other profiteers on Wall Street, who for years have successfully kept the model from becoming legal. Fortunately, PublicBankingInstitute.org has been making progress across the country in overcoming this hurdle with several cities and states that undertaken their own feasibility studies and are approving legislation.

While I could go on about the many good things that happened during the Interfaith Advocacy Day last Tuesday, it was great to meeting so many people who genuinely care about our current state of affairs and are looking to build bridges between the parties.

Judging by the the number of comments that this post has received, I’m guessing that most followers like hearing about what can be done at the local level rather than the constant doom and gloom from the corporate media or the Beltway.

Keep up your good work, folks!

Isn’t this anti-Christian bias? Arresting Christian preachers??

Doesn’t the EO say this is to be protected???

Hypocrites all.

Despite being an atheist, your poor people’s campaign has always had my heart, my social workers heart, these are humanist values you stand for. These arrests are the ravaging dictator playbook, the antithesis of the founding of America!! Freedom of speech, freedom of religion! Thank You for all you do—we will stand up for you!

Yes, this is a moral moment! Time for all with a conscience to stand against the proposal to wound the poor and lavish money on the rich. Thank you for speaking up for justice and love in the Capitol Rotunda, and submitting to arrest. True bravery.
