This was a call to remember who we are when the cameras leave and the hashtags fade. I read every word. From the evocation of the Freedom Riders to the raw clarity about delivering caskets to offices that voted for policy death, this piece revives history with spine.
That story about Bob Zellner, the white college student who saw John Lewis and Jim Zwerg in the hospital and decided he wasn’t free either had me feeling some type of way. Because that’s the line right there: you’re either protecting democracy or you’re pacifying the mob. No in-between.
Moral Mondays is not just protest, no it’s a theology of dissent. A doctrine of direct action. And the choice to center it in the South, right in the belly of the beast, is a deliberate spiritual strategy. These aren’t “activists.” These are prophets in vestments, bearing coffins and conscience into offices that pretend not to see.
We’re beyond polite outrage now. This moment demands risk, the kind that doesn’t fit neatly in a tweet. The kind that says: if the law can’t protect the poor, then the poor will become the law.
I’ll be writing more about this on my page, if you’re the type that still believes in slow-burning witness. The kind that stares authoritarianism in the eye and doesn’t blink.
Don't know, actually, I don't even remember where I read it. We need someone to get it on social media. I'm 68 and unable to do that protest thing. But keep spreading the word!
thank you for saying out loud what is going on in the US, the normalization of evil and of systemic racism and white supremacism. Great point that the South was not asked to put on a Klan robe and burn crosses in the yards of their Black neighbors. They only had to look away. God will judge us for our ambivalence and apathy in this crisis moment.
I'm wondering how long can I hide behind the fact that I'm a senior citizen on Oxygen and using a walker? How effective can my witness be, and how is the best way for me to express that witness? I'm still puzzled by what to do. But I feel I must do something!
We can't give up or give in to this regime! It's breathtakingly horrific what's happening. Too many CEOs, universities, tv networks, etc have capitulated. Republican US congress & far right supreme court judges have surrendered their power & their oath.
The congregation at Epworth UMC (Durham, NC) would very much like to be a part of the August 18 Moral Monday and look forward to hearing from someone about the logistics. Becky Felton

You are right on—keep walking and talking in the need for this moral moment!
Let’s keep on keeping on together.
Thank you for educating, reminding and inspiring. We shall overcome, someday.
Sounds like an awesome plan! Let’s go together! 💜
This administration will never listen until we shut down the country. Join the General Strike on August 9th! No work, no shopping, no internet.
Valerie this is the first time I've heard of a set date for this which concerns me that many are not aware!
I know. Please spread the word!
Valerie is there a group web page?

if u go to old train stations the old "colored" waiting areas are still there.
Rehabilitating society is like training a puppy. Dont yell. Rub their nose in their mess: soon theyll be potty trained.
So.
Put the old signs back up on bathrooms, lobbies, entrances & exits, so noone can forget or deny anything that happened.
