I remember Mrs Gibb's unnecessary death, and our fight to keep Belhaven open. Some of us Raging Grannies camped out in Belhaven to keep an eye on the bulldozers parked at the closed hospital because the town leaders were still fighting to at least use the building for a nursing home for veterans. The Republican legislature wouldn't fund that either and the hospital building was torn down. Policy murder indeed.

It is up to the republicans who control congress to decide if they will represent Their constituents or the billionaire oligarchs who want a giant tax cut. We cannot maintain the level of health care and social services we now have for all of our people, increasdefense spending, and also provide for this tax cut, without making our federal deficit so high that it endsngers the nation’s credit. It would not be hard to decide what to do if republicans put the country and the people the represent first, no tax cut and no defense increase.

I’m so very sorry. This is truly an example of priorities. And the need to have local hospitals is not a priority. Every day humans do not matter, especially when they’re ( Congressional Republicans) creating a budget & making “necessary”cuts. The cuts are wrong 😑, just wrong, immoral.

It’s even more shocking when you boil it down to the essence of the issue. Rather than providing healthcare and saving the lives of their own constituents, republicans preferred to take a public stand against Obama. The federal government would have covered 90% of the cost. And they said no. Because they are against anything democrats are for. They don’t care who it hurts.

So much of what was said in this article is vitally important. People should come before ideologies. Health care is a human right in a country that is wealthy and has had such advanced medical care. The impact of denying health care to th poor will have ripple effects throughout the economy. Issues cannot be separated. Everything is connected.
